Snorkeling in the virgin islands

Many snorkelers count the US Virgin islands as among the best snorkeling locations in the entire world. While other snorkelers might argue with the classification of best, no one will deny that the Virgin Islands is a beautiful and rewarding place to visit and to enjoy the multitude of snorkeling opportunities which it presents.

Most resort hotels in the Virgin Islands and many of the private villas as well provide snorkeling equipment for guests to use or rent as commonly as other facilities. At almost any snorkeling beach or facility you will see guests face down and with tubes pointed to the sky, happily paddling, floating and lazing the warm tropical waters.

There are a number of factors which make snorkeling in the Virgin Islands so popular. First, the waters are warm. 72 degree waters are the rule, rather than the exception here. One does not become chilled after a few minutes or an hour in the water. The waters are also very clear; visibility can be many feet in some areas up to dozens in other areas.

The lagoons, formed behind the coral reefs are calm and full of life. Literally hundreds of species of tropical fish and other sea creatures live in the waters of this paradise on earth. The viewing opportunities for the serious snorkeler are virtually unlimited. The color and richness of the sea life is unsurpassed.

The people of the Virgin Islands are known for their hospitality and friendliness. They make the visitor feel invited in to view the most beautiful islands of the Caribbean.

Coral formations grow in every direction, with colors complementing the turquoise waters and the azure sky beside the white sand beaches. Brightly colored Parrotfish move about in the water in colorful schools of fish.

Because of the multitude of other activities available in addition to snorkeling, the US Virgin Islands are a popular place to spend a honeymoon. It's an easy flight from most locations in the US. The hotel and resort facilities are wide spread and up to the minute with everything you need to get away for the first few romantic days of marriage, while providing a wealth of opportunity to do things together that are different and unusual.

Instructors are provided in most areas of the Virgin Islands to get you started in snorkeling, but from there on, you and your new spouse can share the beauty of nature in an entirely new way.
