Snorkeling dominican republic

The history of the Dominican Republic is alive with maritime stories, ships, sea and sand. Likewise, the waters surrounding this beautiful and luxurious tourist paradise teem with life. Dominican Republic is not as overdeveloped as some of the other islands in the Caribbean; therefore if you prefer solitude to shopping and peace rather than people, you may want to consider the benefits of snorkeling in the Dominican Republic.

PUERTO PLATA

This small city is one of the best beach destinations on the island. The beach is stunning, with clear turquoise waters and warm white sands. The colonial feel of Puerto Plata adds to the enjoyment of the area. Just offshore are the bright coral reefs where the snorkeling opportunities are unsurpassed. The number and variety of fish make for wonderful viewing opportunities. Snorkelers from all over the world make this area the destination for their snorkeling in the Dominican Republic.

Puerto Plata is also an enjoyable town for the friendly people. They congregate at the plaza and you can often find an open air amateur concert going on during warm summer evenings.

BOCA CHILCA

Not far from Santo Domingo is a beach popular with families because the lagoon behind the coral reef is very shallow. Snorkeling on the fringes of the reef is popular for beginning surfers. The shallowness of the waters make the marine life easy to see for the snorkeler, and the reef fringes provide hiding places to search out and view for the more timid creatures of the deep.

JUAN DOLIO

This beach is about an hour's drive from Santo Domingo and offers a variety of water sports including snorkeling. Since there are also swimmers, sailors windsurfers and boating enthusiasts using the same area, it can become a trifle crowded at times, but is still an opportunity to view marine life while not being too far from hotel accommodations.

Snorkeling in Dominican Republic tends to be more of a privately arranged excursion. There are a few tour excursions around the area with prime viewing locations for snorkelers, but many choose to go their own way and find the sites themselves.

Dominican Republic has so many activities going on in addition to snorkeling that you may be temped to snorkel in the morning shop in the afternoon and dance the night away.
Because of its quieter, less developed locations, Dominican Republic offers an enjoyable change of pace for a snorkeling vacation.
